Bose Smart Soundbar 600
The Bose Soundbar 600 packs Dolby Atmos with upward-firing transducers into an impossibly small and elegant bar. Both Alexa and Google Assistant are built in, rare for a soundbar at this price. The Bose Music app and ADAPTiQ calibration are genuinely good. Bass is limited without the optional Bose Sub, but at $477 on sale it's hard to beat for a bedroom or small living room.

My Review
Atmos at $477 sounds like a con, yet this Bose bar delivers. Upward-firing speakers hit the ceiling convincingly in an open-plan kitchen. Both Alexa and Google are built in, which matters more than marketing departments admit. You pick one ecosystem and don't feel locked out of the other. ADAPTiQ calibration is Bose's secret weapon: it actually listens to your room and adjusts on the fly.
I ran the torture tests. Dialogue clarity in a cluttered living room with morning coffee noise: excellent. The bar stays locked on voices even when you're clattering dishes. eARC handshake via a Samsung TV worked first try, no HDMI drama. Without a sub, surround sound for a Atmos movie via Stan felt one-dimensional but not tinny. Add the optional Bose Sub ($500) and you're at $977 total, which enters Sonos Beam Gen 2 territory.
Cons are real. Only 3.0.2 channels means no rear speaker option. Bass is anaemic solo. The Bose ecosystem doesn't multi-room like Sonos. Firmware updates occasionally killed voice control on Android (fixed post-2025). No DTS:X, just Dolby.
For a bedroom or small flat where budget matters, this is the right call. Grab one from JB Hi-Fi or Harvey Norman when it hits $400. Rating: 4/5.
ACL Coverage: Standard 12-month manufacturer warranty. Bose offers hassle-free replacement if eARC fails in year one. HDMI handshake issues appear between months 8-18; buy from Harvey Norman for extended ACL protection. Typical lifespan: 3-5 years before driver degradation or firmware bricking.
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law: At $477, this is a mid range product with a reasonable expected lifespan of 5-7 years. Bose offers a 3-year manufacturer warranty, but consumer guarantees extend beyond that for a product at this price point. If you experience hdmi arc/earc failure, subwoofer wireless connection dropping within the expected lifespan, you have a consumer guarantee claim. Start with the retailer you bought it from. JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, wherever. They must handle it, not redirect you to Bose.
