Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones
Neck-and-neck with the Sony XM6 for best ANC headphones: Sony wins on call quality, battery and outright noise cancelling, the Bose wins on spatial audio and price. Both are excellent at current Australian prices.

My Review
Bose has finally cracked the ANC code with CustomTune, and it's the closest thing to silence you'll experience on headphones. Activate it and the world drops away with surgical precision. Immersive Audio is spatial audio done well, it doesn't feel gimmicky like some implementations.
The foldable design is the travel hero here. Toss them into a carry-on without thinking twice. Build quality sits solidly in the premium camp without screaming for attention. They're comfortable for long stretches, though the clamping force is tighter than Sony or Sennheiser options.
Battery longevity is where things get messy. The headline 24 hours is honest, but Immersive Audio drains it to 18 hours. For a long-haul Australian flight (Sydney to London is 17 hours flight time), you'll land needing a charge. Switching to standard active noise cancellation (ANC) mode adds breathing room, but then you lose the spatial magic. One quirk: wired mode requires the headphones to be powered on, which Sony and Sennheiser don't do.
Crying baby test on a Qantas flight? CustomTune handles it better than anything except the Sony XM6. Eight-hour Teams call endurance is solid through hour six, then ear pressure builds. Pitt Street Mall with ANC active, you'll still catch bus horns and delivery trucks clearly.
Australian warranty support through Bose Australia is straightforward. Replacement ear cushions are readily available online and in Harvey Norman. Hinge durability reported as reliable over 2-3 years by users.
ACL Note: Mid-range premium ($399), 1-year warranty. Expect 3-4 year lifespan with moderate daily use. Hinge mechanism and ear cushion deterioration are normal wear items. Replacement cushions $49-69 from Bose Australian stockists.
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law: At $399, this is a mid range product with a reasonable expected lifespan of 3-4 years. Bose offers a 1-year manufacturer warranty, but consumer guarantees extend beyond that for a product at this price point. If you experience headband cracking, ear cushion deterioration within the expected lifespan, you have a consumer guarantee claim. Start with the retailer you bought it from. JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, wherever. They must handle it, not redirect you to Bose.
