My Review

You own a Samsung phone and want a watch that gets it. The Galaxy Watch 7 is Samsung's play: beautiful AMOLED, 100+ fitness modes, smooth Android integration, $499 price tag that undercuts Apple and Garmin premium.

Design is genuinely attractive. The AMOLED display is brilliant in sun and shadow. Interface is fast, animations are smooth, feels refined. If you care about how your wrist looks at work and the gym, this delivers. Touch responsiveness beats competitors.

Fitness tracking integrates smoothly with Samsung Health. 100+ modes cover standard sports and niche stuff. GPS is standard single-band, adequate accuracy for tracking a bush walk route but not precision-level like Garmin multi-band. Heart rate sensor works during steady cardio; interval detection is reliable.

Battery is the tradeoff. With AMOLED screen always-on, expect two days of heavy use, three days if you're sparing with notifications. Garmin Venu 3 stretches 11 days. It's a genuine gap. For the price, though, reasonable.

Sleep tracking includes deep/light/REM stages. Accuracy is good but not exceptional, occasional misdetection of afternoon couch passes as sleep, which is funny until it messes with your stats. Passes the torture test: week of Coogee swims, daily showers, gym commutes. Water resistance to 5 ATM (50m) is fine for pool/beach but not depth diving.

Third-party app library is smaller than Apple, bigger than pure Garmin. You get Strava, Spotify, most fitness apps. Not everything, but enough.

Real talk: this is the smooth operator. Fast, pretty, capable. Battery is the price of admission. If you change phones every two years anyway, the charging rhythm fits.

ACL COVERAGE: Mid-premium ($499). Expected lifespan 3-4 years. Key failure modes: AMOLED pixel shift year 3, battery capacity degradation accelerated by screen duty cycle (expect year 2 drop to 1.5 days), GPS module reliability issues appear year 2 with heavy training, HR sensor calibration drift common, water ingress reported with 5 ATM rating in saltwater. Retailers: JB Hi-Fi, Samsung Australia, Harvey Norman. 1-year standard warranty.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law: At $499, this is a mid range product with a reasonable expected lifespan of 3-4 years. Samsung offers a 1-year manufacturer warranty, but consumer guarantees extend beyond that for a product at this price point. If you experience battery degradation, screen failure within the expected lifespan, you have a consumer guarantee claim. Start with the retailer you bought it from. JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, wherever. They must handle it, not redirect you to Samsung.
