Reolink Argus 4 Pro Wireless Security Camera
The Reolink Argus 4 Pro is the best no-subscription camera for the money: genuine 4K, an ultra-wide 180-degree view, and solar-rechargeable battery. Every smart feature (person, vehicle and animal detection) runs locally on your network, so there is no cloud dependency and no monthly fee. Footage stores to a microSD card or network drive. Night vision is infrared only rather than colour. Best for buyers who want the most coverage and detail with zero ongoing cost.

My Review
The Reolink Argus 4 Pro is the camera that wins on the numbers and the lack of a monthly bill. True 4K, an ultra-wide 180-degree field of view, solar-rechargeable battery, and every feature available with local storage and no subscription ever. At $299 it is our highest-scoring security camera, and for most people it is the smart buy.
It records genuine 4K across that 180-degree view, so a single camera covers a whole frontage with almost no blind spots. It runs on a rechargeable battery that a clip-on solar panel can keep topped up indefinitely, carries an IP65 weather rating, and stores footage locally to a microSD card, network drive or Reolink Home Base 3. The smart detection for people, vehicles and animals runs on your own network, which is good for both privacy and your wallet. It works with Google Home and Alexa, but not Apple HomeKit.
What the RefDat test lab found
The wide 4K view is the standout. Where most cameras force you to choose between coverage and detail, this one gives you both, capturing an entire yard while still letting you crop in and read a face or plate. Daytime footage is excellent, motion detection is quick and accurate, and the local AI ran reliably without any cloud round-trip. With the solar panel attached, battery anxiety simply disappears. The one genuine limitation is night vision: it is infrared only, so after dark you get clear black-and-white rather than the colour footage the Arlo's spotlight delivers.
What owners actually report
Owners on Whirlpool and OzBargain are enthusiastic, repeatedly highlighting the 4K, the huge field of view and the total absence of subscription fees as the reasons they chose it. The recurring watch-outs are the infrared-only night vision rather than colour, the Reolink app being functional but less slick than Arlo's or Google's, and the brand's Australian support being smaller than the big names. For the price and capability, owners overwhelmingly feel those are easy trades.
Who should skip it? If you specifically want colour night vision or deep Apple HomeKit integration, the Arlo Pro 5 is the alternative. For the most coverage and detail with zero ongoing cost, the Reolink is the one to beat.
You will find it at JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks and selected Harvey Norman stores. OzBargain regularly posts deals on Reolink cameras and solar bundles.
Australian Consumer Law (ACL): an outdoor security camera at $299 should reasonably last 5 to 8 years, with the consumer guarantees realistically covering 3 to 4, beyond the typical 2-year warranty. If the battery fails abnormally, the lens fogs permanently or the connection stops working in that window, you have a claim. Take it to your retailer.
Bottom line: the most coverage and detail for the money with no subscription, our top security pick. Highly recommended. Choose the Arlo instead only if colour night vision or HomeKit is a must. RefDat score 4.6 out of 5.
