My Review
You want a smartwatch that won't embarrass you on the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk. The Ultra 2 is basically unbreakable titanium wrapped around Apple's ecosystem, and if you're locked into iPhone, it's the obvious choice.
That $1699 price tag isn't aspirational, it's real. You're paying for the titanium frame, always-on display, and ECG that actually works. The 100+ workout modes cover everything from trail running to open water swimming. GPS is genuinely accurate; we tracked multiple beach runs and the line stayed tight to actual coastal paths. The real win is how health monitoring integrates: ECG, blood oxygen (SpO2), temperature sensing, all instant feedback without fumbling menus.
Week one torture test: daily showers, ocean swims at Coogee, sweaty commutes. The Ultra 2 survived without a scratch. Water resistance to 100m means you're safe in the pool or the harbour. Battery hit day two with heavy GPS use, which stings, traditional sports watches laugh at this. But if you're the type who charges your phone every night anyway, the rhythm fits.
Sleep tracking works. Pass out on the couch mid-SBS documentary and the watch figures out you're in REM. Not perfect, but miles better than guessing. Heart rate sensor is rock solid during interval training.
The learning curve is nonexistent if you own an iPhone. Everything syncs automatically. Third-party app library is decent. Battery life is the genuine tradeoff: expect 48 hours with moderate use, 36 with GPS hammering.
ACL COVERAGE: Premium ($1699+). Expected lifespan 4-5 years with typical daily use. Key failure modes: battery degradation after year 3, screen failures reported after heavy impact, occasional GPS module drift. Water ingress rare but catastrophic given the price. Retailers: Apple Store Australia direct, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman. Apple's 1-year warranty is standard; accidental damage runs extra.
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law: At $1699, this is a premium product with a reasonable expected lifespan of 4-5 years. Apple offers a 1-year manufacturer warranty, but consumer guarantees extend beyond that for a product at this price point. If you experience battery degradation, screen failure within the expected lifespan, you have a consumer guarantee claim. Start with the retailer you bought it from. JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, wherever. They must handle it, not redirect you to Apple.
