Detailed Comparison
I reckon the Sonos Era 300 is the more versatile speaker for most homes, though the HomePod has some genuinely clever advantages if you're deep in the Apple ecosystem. The Era 300 sounds fuller and more balanced out of the box. It's got that Sonos tuning I've come to trust, and the speaker handles everything from podcasts to bass-heavy hip-hop without any real weakness. It does proper room-filling sound without needing a subwoofer. The HomePod is all about spatial audio integration with Apple Music and your Apple devices, which is legitimately cool if you've got an iPhone and Mac. But it sounds quite small and mid-focused for the size of it. The Spatial Audio feature is clever tech, no question, but it only works with Apple Music, not Spotify or anything else. The Era 300 works with everything. Both do temperature and air quality sensing, both sound clear for voice calls, both support AirPlay 2. The HomePod's big weakness is it's basically trapped in the Apple world and you pay a premium for the integration tax. The Era 300 lets you use any music service, connects to any smart home platform, and sounds better while doing it. HomePod is cheaper though, if that matters.Buying in Australia
