Could Be Better

My Review
The Breville Bakery Chef is what happens when a company actually watches people bake. That automatic mixing detection isn't marketing fluff. It genuinely stops ramming your sourdough around mid-knead if it detects the dough's ready, which means no more guessing when to pull the bread. The 5L bowl is bigger than KitchenAid's Artisan, so you're handling double batches without spillage.
Six speeds feels thin on paper against KitchenAid's ten, but the auto-detection does heavy lifting. When we tested a stiff biscuit dough, the motor didn't strain. The thing runs quieter than most KitchenAids too. You're not waking the household at 6am.
The downsides matter though. Breville's two year warranty is a year shorter than KitchenAid. This is a newer player in the Australian market, so durability data isn't as solid. Check JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman for stock and returns policies.
Torture test results: sourdough double batch stayed planted, barely shifted. Egg whites to stiff peaks in 2:50. Biscuit dough handled cleanly, no motor whine. This machine respects heavy work.
ACL Coverage: Breville Bakery Chef falls in the mid-range category ($200-$600). Expect serviceable life of 5-8 years. Beaters, dough hooks, and bowls are available as parts through major retailers. Breville has Australian service centres, which matters. Motor burnout and planetary gear fatigue are known failure points after heavy use. At this price, that's reasonable wear. Buy from JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, or Appliances Online for warranty clarity.
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law: At $599, this is a mid range product with a reasonable expected lifespan of 5-8 years. Breville offers a 1-year manufacturer warranty, but consumer guarantees extend beyond that for a product at this price point. If you experience planetary gear failure, motor burnout within the expected lifespan, you have a consumer guarantee claim. Start with the retailer you bought it from. JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, wherever. They must handle it, not redirect you to Breville.
